November, 2019

Just how grateful would you feel to be chilling out in a bikini right now? And what about exchanging that store-bought eggnog for a premium piña colada? These, my friends, are just some of the perks of heading south to experience Thanksgiving, Mexican-style.

Although this is wholeheartedly an American holiday, the shared border with Mexico makes it inevitable that some U.S. Thanksgiving traditions would find their way south–with their added touch of spice and color, of course. Mexican families who choose to commemorate the day bring a religious intention into the celebrations, expressing a strong appreciation for their many blessings. Gathering with friends and family to share warm conversation and thanksgiving food with a traditional Mexican spin are high on the menu.

If the traditional turkey fare is a must-have, you’ll find numerous restaurants in destinations such as Los Cabos or the Mexican Caribbean, which play gracious host to ex-pats, vacationers, and locals. And when it comes to choosing the right all-inclusive family resort in Cancun or the Riviera Maya you can rest assured that a classic dinner will be served.

“Consider this. By choosing to give your normal holiday customs a Mexican twist, you might find yourselves counting your blessings even more than ever”.

Try traditional thanksgiving food with a Mexican twist at Moon Palace Cancun

Just be aware that for traditional Thanksgiving celebrations, even those which are included for guests, such as the annual events at Moon Palace Arena or The Grand, reservations will generally be required to ensure ample tables are prepared.

For the more adventurous, you might be interested in trying a fusion of thanksgiving fare with traditional Mexican food, such as turkey or chicken prepared in a green mole or spicy chipotle pepper sauce. Or perhaps there’s one of your clan who would be extremely grateful for a succulent cut of Certified Angus Beef® or marinated pork roast, rather than fowl.

And let’s be honest, although it may all seem to be about the turkey, the real stars of thanksgiving are the sweet treats, and pumpkin pie is just the tip of the iceberg. Try as you might, the urge for sweet nibbles will be there. So, imagine a 24-hour bistro included in your stay, with hand-painted chocs, cookies and more, making eyes at you every time you pass by…

For gluten-free and other dietary needs, fear not. Just be sure to mention your requirements when deciding on your resort and you will still be giving thanks for some of the most delicious meals you’ve ever had.

When it comes to entertainment, there’s no need to go cold turkey (excuse the festive pun) and miss out on one of the top holiday traditions of all–yelling at the Thanksgiving football games! Sports bars can easily be found both inside and outside resorts, in just about any tourist destination in Mexico, with big-screen TVs and the friendly company of ex-pats, tourists, and locals.

To keep the little ones happy during that sacred football time, you have always got the option of resorts with fun-filled kids clubs, and for festive family bonding come evening time, something along the lines of the Christmas Village at Moon Palace Cancun (usually inaugurated around mid-November) may be right up your street.

Feast on delicious Mexican dishes among family during Thanksgiving

What’s more, if you do happen to be making a Mexican thanksgiving escape and looking for fun things to do in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, you might also want to check out the annual edition of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, which generally takes place towards the end of November. This laid-back, totally free event is held on one of the most popular beaches in Playa del Carmen and features jazz greats and top name headliners year on year.

So, consider this. By choosing to give your normal holiday customs a Mexican twist, you might find yourselves counting your blessings even more than ever.

Best resort and customer service!

Everything about this resort was perfect. The customer service is out of this world. I would like to thank Vanessa (hostess) and Raul Yepez (server). However, my family and I loved Agustin Escalante. He always remembered us and treated us so nicely.

The largest and the best!

Being a member a couple of times over has allowed me to stay at some fantastic locations. The Moom Palace, Cancun is my favorite. The immense diversity of restaurants and hangouts for cold beverages keep the resort from feeling like more of the same.
